    RESEARCH LAB          :    Well equipped laboratory with adequate facilities are available. Two Research  Projects are submitted to  Multi – Disciplinary Research Unit     (MDRU) for  approval.

    Teaching aid : 1.Computer with internet : facilitates e – learning for both faculty and students  through the access of e- journals and e- library.

2. Printer and Scanner : Print out of learning materials are also available for future reference.

MUSEUM             :   Well maintained infrastructure with adequate teaching aids and well preserved adequate ( 150) Anatomy specimens  are available in our museum .

                                     Our Museum racks are filled with many Models , Charts , Glass painting  Projects , foetal  specimens (according to developmental age) and  embryology specimens ( Neural tube defects ).           

LIBRARY                :  Positive  learning environment with adequately equipped and well   maintained .

Books :  Latest edition of standard books around  160 of various authors are available.

 Journals : National  and inernational Journals  around 15 , of various phases are available.

DEPARTMENT OF PATHOLOGY

About Department

One of the important departments in a medical college, linking all the clinical, pre and paraclinical departments, in dindigul medical college started functioning even before the inception of medical college as a part of the central lab of the district headquarters hospital.

Services Offered

The three basic divisions of pathology include

  • Histopathology
  • Hematology
  • Cytopathology

Histopathology: Essentially the study of tissue samples to diagnose closely the disorder.

Hematology: Deals with the study of diseases in the blood cells and components like leukemia, clotting disorders and deficiency processes of iron and vitamin-B12.

Cytopathology:Dealing with the etiological processes involved in a disease development and deals with the study of fluids in the body like urine, saliva, semen, pleural and peritoneal fluid and the disease processes.

The following investigations are done in our Pathology laboratory:

Blood Bank

         As part of the department, the blood bank is also maintained by the faculties.

        

Our blood centre provides quality transfusion services following approved standards. It is a process that takes place in the laboratory to ensure that the donated blood and blood components are safe before they are used in blood transfusion. It caters to the need of our hospital.

It includes collection of Whole blood from voluntary blood donors and processed into blood components.

 Blood components include PRBC, FFP, Platelet concentrate, Cryoprecipitate.

Blood products are screened for infectious diseases – HIV, HBsAg, HCV, VDRL, Malaria

The laboratories perform tests which include blood grouping and typing, screening of blood products and identification of abnormal antibodies.

We provide academic sessions to CRMI ‘s posted in blood centre

We conduct  5 camps in a month and total collection around 400 – 600 units  per month and

Total blood issued around 400- 700 units per month

  • A well designed and organized museum of interesting specimens is also available in the department.

Departmental Library:

  • The departmental library holds good collection of standard books in basic pathology for the undergraduates and monologues of various systems like the gastrointestinal system, dermatology, forensic medicine, lymph node pathology, etc is also established.

Microscopes and Case Slides:

  • There are sufficient number of microscopes and interesting case slides along with charts for the study of the undergaraduate students according to the competency based medical education.

Academics (CBME)

  • As a part of the curriculum students when they come in the second year, are taught practical applications of hemoglobin estimation, blood grouping, peripheral smear examination and urine analysis.         Students are also taught the basic morphological features in various disease processes like anaemia, appendicitis, tuberculosis, malignant cell morphology and common inflammatory conditions.
  • Frequent group discussions, charts, wet specimens- studies, seminars and symposia are also conducted in the department as part of the new CBME.
  • Academic activities also include participating in the clinical society meeting held in the hospital and CME programmes.

Medal Examination

  • Students are also awarded prizes based on their performance in the medal exams planned every year.

PHARMACOLOGY

DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACOLOGY

 About department:

One of the Para-clinical department that deals with the science of drugs – interaction of exogenously administered chemical substances with the living system.

 Courses offered:

Our Institution has been approved as an ADR Monitoring Centre under the Indian Pharmacopoeia commission, National Coordination Centre – Pharmacovigilance Program of India.

CME ON BOOSTING PUBLIC CONFIDENCE IN PHARMACOVIGILANCE was conducted on 21.9.2023

Essay, Poetry & drawing competitions were conducted for the students and winners were awarded.

 Museum – A well organised museum with display of all drugs & their route of administlation is available.

 Library : Departmental library with around 100 books are available for both faculties & students with all facilities.

 Clinical Laboratory : A well equipped clinical laboratory with Mannikins for demonstrating intramuscular, intravenous, subcutaneous & intradermal injections is available in our department.

 CAL : Computer assisted lab is available for demonstrating simulation animal experiments for students.

Well equipped Experimental Laboratory is also available.

Pharmacovigilance committee & Causality assessment committee: Will analyse the ADR reported from various departments of our Institution and the final report will be uploaded through vigiflow to PvPI. Till now around 150 ADR cases has been reported.

Department of General surgery is one of the main and largest clinical department in the Government Medical college, Dindigul headed by Professors,  Associate Professors and Assistant professors. ORTHOPEDICS

ANESTHESIOLOGY

Anaesthesia services are essential for carrying out
complicated surgeries. Our hospitals offer services for both acute and chronic conditions. Pre-evaluation, intraoperative treatment with cutting-edge monitoring, and highly pleasant post-operative care are all included in our services, and we also give a great deal of importance to pain management,early mobilisation, and rehabilitation.
We achieve expertise in neuraxial and USG-guided nerve blocks with the
availability of the latest anaesthesia machine and USG machine and are also equipped with advanced anaesthesia equipment like fiberoptic bronchoscope.
